Om Thanvi is an acclaimed journalist and author currently serving as the founding vice-chancellor of Haridev Joshi University of Journalism and Mass Communication, Jaipur (Rajasthan) He is holding additional charge of V-C, MDSU, Ajmer and V-C, Rajasthan State Skills University, Jaipur. He was born in the town of Phalodi in Jodhpur district of Rajasthan and grew up in Bikaner..His father was an educationalist and editor of two educational journals. He has accomplished his post graduation in Business Administration from Rajasthan University. His career in journalism started during his student days in 1977 when he was contributing to the weekly Marudeep daily Yugpaksh (Bikaner) and weekly Ravivar (Calcutta). From 1978 to 2015, he was active in mainstream journalism and has worked with many prestigious newspapers. Some of them are, Itwari, Jansatta of the Indian Express Group. He was a visiting professor at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) at the Center for Media Studies, School of Social Sciences. He has been bestowed with Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi award, awarded by the Central Institute of Hindi and, Bihari Puraskar, awarded by K. K. Birla Foundation for his book Muanjodaro.
